As a girl, my parents would take my siblings and I to parties with their friends and relatives. There would be yummy food, karaoke, and lots of drinking and gambling. It wasn't a fun place for kids, but we would congregate with a bunch of our cousins and simply make it fun! Wrestling, games, make believe, we would spend time together in a single room, making our own party. In this illustration spread, I've twisted the unpleasant memories, and chose to remember the ones that do spark joy, sharing a memory maybe other Vietnamese Americans might also reminisce on.
